1970 Fox Minibike Part 3

Well, the first thing to do is to try and get it running!  It has spark, fuel and the air filter is clean.  Compression is present on my pinky when put in the spark plug hole, but I don’t have a 10mm adapter to screw a compression tester in.  A quick check of the valve clearance finds no clearance!  Adjusting intake and exhaust valves to .002 and .003” respectively and voila!  It fired right up.

Having a new knee made it tricky, but a test ride was in order.  You’ll note the one leg doesn’t quite bend into place!  It ran awesome and certainly is faster than any other 50cc bike I’d ridden.  Hmm, now I needed to consult the internet to see if anyone had ever stuffed a Honda type engine in a traditional minibike frame.  I come across a couple sites, but one in particular, Red Beard’s Garage, showed a Honda engine going into a Coleman bike.

Mike and I watched that episode and then out come the measuring tape...
